Here is what I believe in a basic 10 points.
1. The 66 books of the Old and New Testaments, inerrant as originally given, were verbally inspired by God and are a complete revelation of His will for the salvation of men. They constitute the divine and only rule of Christian faith and practice.1 (12 Peter 1:20–22, II Timothy 3:15–16)
2. There is one God,2 who is infinitely perfect,3 existing eternally in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.4 (2Deuteronomy 6:4; 3Matthew 5:48; 4Matthew 28:19)
3. Jesus Christ is true God and true man.5 He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary.6 He died upon the cross, the Just for the unjust,7 as a substitutionary and propitiatory sacrifice,8 and all who believe in Him are justified on the ground of His shed blood.9 He arose from the dead according to the Scriptures.10 He is now at the right hand of the Majesty on high as our great High Priest.11 He will come again to establish His Kingdom of righteousness and peace.12 (5Philippians 2:6–11; 6Luke 1:36–38; 71 Peter 3:18; 8Hebrews 2:9, I John 2:2; 9Romans 5:9; 10Acts 2:23–24; 11Hebrews 8:1; 12Matthew 26:64)
4. The Holy Spirit is a divine Person,13 sent to indwell, guide, teach, empower the believer,14 and convince the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment.15 (13John 14:15–18; 14Romans 8:9; John 16:13, Acts 1:8; 15John 16:7–11)
5. Man was originally created in the image and likeness of God.16 He fell through disobedience, incurring thereby both physical and spiritual death. All men are born with a sinful nature,17 are separated from the life of God, and can be saved only through the atoning work of the Lord Jesus Christ.18 The future of the unrepentant and unbelieving person is existence forever in conscious torment,19 and that of the believer in Christ is everlasting life and joy in the presence of the Lord.20 (16Genesis 1:27; 17Ephesians 2:3, Romans 3:23; 181 Corinthians 15:20–23; 19Revelation 21:8; 20Revelation 21:1–4)
6. Salvation has been provided through Jesus Christ for all men21, and those who repent and believe in Him are born again of the Holy Spirit, receive the gift of eternal life, and become the children of God.22 (21I Timothy 2:4–6; 22Acts 20:21, Titus 3:4–7)
7. It is the will of God that each believer should be filled with the Holy Spirit,23 being separated from sin and the world and fully dedicated to the will of God, thereby receiving power for holy living and effective service.24 The Holy Spirit gives spiritual gifts for the edification of the Body of Christ.25 (23Ephesians 5:18; 24Acts 1:8, I Thessalonians 5:23, Romans 6:1–14; 25Ephesians 4:7–13, Romans 12:4–8)
8. The Church consists of all those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, are redeemed through His blood, and are born again of the Holy Spirit. Christ is the Head of the Body, the Church,26 which has been commissioned by Him to go into all the world as a witness, preaching the gospel and making disciples of all nations.27 The local church is a body of believers in Christ who are joined together for the worship of God, for edification through the Word of God, prayer, fellowship, the proclamation of the gospel, and observance of the ordinances of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.28 (26Ephesians 1:22–23; 27Matthew 28:19–20; 28Acts 2:41–47)
9. There shall be a bodily resurrection of the just and of the unjust, followed by judgment29; for the former, a resurrection unto life;30 for the latter, a resurrection unto condemnation.31 (29Hebrews 9:27; 30I Corinthians 15:20–23; 31John 5:28–29)
10. The Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ will be personal and visible.32 This is the believer’s hope and is a vital truth that is an incentive to holy living and faithful service.33 (32Hebrews 10:37, Luke 21:27; 33Titus 2:11–14)
i have a question, you said that the old and New Testament constitute the divine and only rule of Christian faith and practice. Are you saying that you , as a Christian are applying EVERYTHING from the old and New Testament to your life? Does that mean you obey Gods commandments for the Israelites in exodus-Deuteronomy? Like giving sacrifices and stuff?
ReplyDeleteTo me, we should read the entire bible and understand the different dispensations, but There is certain commandments specifically FOR the church age (the time between Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection to rapture of the saved, so the “church age” is the era which we live in) in specific New Testament books, but the church age does not follow laws mentioned in certain parts of the Bible that weren’t given to the church age.
The reason for that is because the laws of the Old Testament were set aside for the Jewish people only. The laws in Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy were demanded by God to keep his people as separate from other nations as possible. When Christianity came, those laws were no loner needed. Now, Jesus spoke on the The Ten Commandments therefore signifying its importance to all people, not just the Jews. Laws that commanded sacrifice were not intended for Christians, because Christians, of course, did not require the ritual sacrifices. However, if you do read many of the laws in the Old Testament many of them still apply to the Christian life today.
DeleteI hope that helps. And remember, the Christians and Jews of today are not the Christians and Jews from 2,000 years ago. As times modernize, so cultures and religions modernize as well. What was done back in the Bible are not necessarily done today. There are many branches of the Jewish faith, there are many branches of the Christian faith. All of them act within accordance to their own interpretation of the laws and commandments given within the Bible.
